Winner of the
2004 Community Enhancement Award Located at Seymour Lake Township
Park
The total value of the project is over $500,000. The committee saved $90,000 by having volunteers build it. Over $130,000 was raised in under 110 days. The total cost of the project is approximately $150,000 (ALL NON-TAX DOLLARS). Fundraisers and donations secured the funds. Fundraisers included: fight night at the park, selling tee shirts and sweat shirts, selling bricks and stones, and bottle/can drives. Over 311 stones were sold and 163 bricks that make up the path way to the playground today. Two 24' concrete castle spires and a drawbridge greet visitors at the playground. 800' of Kroy Vinyl fencing enhances the playground as well as ensures safety of the children. The Grand Entrance to Kid's Kingdom! The playground when delivered weighed 22 tons, and was shipped in two semi-trucks, and totaled over 7,000 individual pieces to be assembled. The square footage of the playground is approximately 22,000 square feet. The committee used 25 cubic yards of concrete, 125 cubic yards of pea stone, over 750 cubic yards of soft fall/wood carpet, and more than 20,000 sq. feet of geo textile fabric. Walkway to Kids Kingdom built with donations for the Bricks and Stones There were 13 different committees consisting of
approximately 65 people. The entire weekend build was recorded by a TV station from Nevada and the event received national coverage. This is the largest community build of its kind in Michigan, and perhaps in the Top 5 in the country. Our department has been contacted by other communities in the country to find out how we successfully came together as one to serve many.
The Great Stone - Thanking All Of The Sponsors and Crew Leaders! On any given day one can witness hundreds of children with their parents, grand parents and neighbors from Oxford and surrounding communities enjoying the playground.
